Well gang, today I got a Coppola Keratin Express Blow Out (I think that's what it was called at least.)

My friend Julia was going to get it done, and we have quite similar hair, and I've been hankering for a change, so I thought I'll go to!

So basically it just straightens and smooths the hair for a few weeks. In the summer especially my hair can get pretty wild and frizzy and out of control.

I took a before:

After!

You aren't supposed to get it wet for up to three days. or sweat. or put your hair behind your ear. or put it in a point tail. or use any type of clip. so that should be easy!

Anyway, that was my day so far! And a bunch of other stuff. Also, Ben wrote an amazing article about going hunting in Florida with a congressman, during which he killed a boar AND scarred his head with the gun. Check it here!

Hey! I hope your Memorial Day Weekend was just lovely. It's quite warm here in DC. I am always that person who is sitting in the dark living room eating fruit salad when everyone is sweating it out on the deck for a bbq. I just would rather be cool, that's all!

Anyway, this little piece ran about me last week on Huffing Post DC which I figured I'd share!

And that's really it! I bought a hat from Target that looks just like one from Anthropologie for $10, and I'm still not sure I pull it off.

And since we're on the topic of me, I loved wearing my new drop earrings about town this weekend, which you can get here!

hey hey hey!!

I went to Florida this weekend with my mama, daniela, and her mama. Some photos: (mostly of daniela)

My dear old mumsy.

We went on a hilarious pirate ship booze cruise.

I got this shirt from TJ Maxx that I'm absolutely obsessed with. Also, I want Daniela's sunglasses from Anthropologie.

One of these houses is Hulk Hogan's ex-wife's. And one is Sylvester Stalone's mom's. hahahah.

Famous!

This place had the best coasters!

So that's about it. We went on a fake pirate ship, and drank a good deal.

Now I'm back and it's rainy and I'm drinking my luke warm coffee and about to pack up a bunch of bike necklaces! What are you up to this monday?

AGHHH

I haven't posted in so long, the layout for blogger is totally different!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS.

So. What's up. Pillows. That's what. And jewelry. Basically pillows and jewelry. It's insanity. All I do is pack pillows and cart them to fed ex. Sometimes I split them up between two different fed ex's in completely different directions so they don't get annoyed with me. Someone (other than my dad) tell me that's silly!

Anyhoo. I've devised a new bundling plan that will involve some sort of tightening straps that I squeeze the pillows with into columns like a newspaper stack! And then I will toss those babies into the zip car! and toss those babies into the Fedex! Yeah?? are you as excited as I am??

Anyway. I'm drinking white wine and blood orange san pellegrino and have been watching hours upon hours of Parenthood on Netflix. Do. You. Watch. This. Show.

I just started last night and keep alternating between tears and laughter. So emotional! My god! I've watched an embarrassing amount of it since last night.

Please, someone (Emily, other than you. We already have plenty to discuss) say you watch it so we can gab in the comments about it!

In other news, Ben has been off in Florida covering some congressmen for his magazine. He went boar hunting with one. And then he cut his head on the scope of the gun.

He gets home tonight, so I'm sure I'll hear all kinds of stories. I'm pretty sure he ate an alligator burger and said it was amazing.

Also I just painted my nails:

And earlier today I drank this:

And look! My favorite postal worker at the post office gave me a few of these monstrous dirty mail sacks for me to bring packages in!

And then I made all of these.

OK

Alright let's seeeeeeee.

Stitchtagram is on Fab. And then the sale got extended. Which is kinda crazy.

My tiny bike necklaces are going to be for sale at the New Amsterdam Bike Show in NYC in April 28th and 29th, and will be discounted too! So if you are planing on going, you totally should! It looks like an awesome event, I wish I could go! The necklaces will be in the booth hosted by Adeline Adeline and Velojoy, along with some great other bike related design products.

In other jewelry news, I made this:

And these. I can't stop wearing my own pair.

SO MUCH

So, lots of things are happening! Nothing is totally official yet though (or maybe it is, and I just am scared to say something before I am supposed to.) That makes it sound really big. And exciting. It's not, I promise. Just some little things like where I'll be selling some things soon.

This I know for sure- on Saturday is a big arts thing happening in Anacostia in DC, a neighborhood I'm not sure I've ever been to. It's called Lumin8 Anacostia, and the pop up shop is called Pixi! It's put on by two gals I adore, Emma and Merin of Pleatherette.  So that will be fun. It's with a lot of other great DC designers, I can't wait to go!

Big things are happening with Stitchtagram too, let me tell ya. We had a great shout out on Hello Brit.

I made these over the past few days:

And wore this today:

That our Ketubah behind me- it's so heavy that I'm scared to hang it up!

Failed Box Experiment

So. My work space has recently expanded to include the "nook" that was previously reserved for dinners. The table hasn't seen a plate on it since Thanksgiving, and may never again until we move. It's wear I pack the pillows, and now, the jewelry! I thought it would be nice to have a little box mounted to the wall to keep things like tape and scissors in so that I can actually use the table.

Before:

Oh god, it really make me look like a lunatic. Let's see- that big roll f paper on the ground is what I'm wrapping the pillows in now. That pile of paper is actually a garbage that I should empty. NExt to that is a box full of plastic envelopes the pillows go in. You can see the tops of my new Frye boots that take me roughly 15 minutes to take off every time I wear the, which is proving to be the worst thing ever. And then on the left you can see a chair piled with jackets, even though two feet away is an empty coat rack!! and just behind that is a door with a ROW OF EMPTY COAT HOOKS. What is wrong with us??

So anyway. After scouring the apartment for a suitable container, I found this handy box that I got from Target months ago with the hopes of organizing my post office receipts and such. Clearly that didn't happen. I also tried turning it into a light box for photos, which didn't work out either.

So I found my heavy duty hammer which I keep behind  the ceramic dogs underneath the TV. (I may be messy, but I can always tell you where anything is in this apartment. Just ask Ben.)

And then I found a tack, which I had noticed on the ground in the corner by the kitchen door when I leaned my white board against it.

And then, I hammered the tack through the box and into the wall. So strong! So sturdy! I filled it up with string and stamps and inks and scissors and tapes!

Look how glorious!! I took off the tape and closed that wall, and filled it up with all sorts of [heavy] goodies.

Wow. So organized. So full of beauty and fun things. Maybe I'll put a little tab in that little tab spot on the front that says SUPPLIES.

But then, just as I turn around to scan the table for other [heavy] things I can put in it....

On the floor. Dead. Everything spilled.

So I just put on the table, like a normal. Boring.

So. That's that. Not everything looks like this:

Sigh. but I really wish it did.

new rings!

today i made a million rings. a MILLION.

The trouble with trouble

One of the hardest parts about running your own biz, I've decided as of yesterday, is figuring out when to do what. Should I make labels first, then finish the orders? Finish up wholesale orders, take pictures, or and then go to the post office??? WHEN DO I EAT MY ENGLISH MUFFIN. Anyway, what ends up happening is that I sit on the couch staring at Gray's Anatomy, trying to figure out what would be the most efficient order of tasks, which is funny because that's not efficient at all!

Anyway, maybe if I list what I need to do today I'll stick to a schedule better.

1. Ben is making hard boiled eggs. Eat one.
2. Stay on couch, make shipping labels for all orders going out today (tip: it helps motivate you to finish all of your orders because the shipping labels are done!)
3. Make orders for today:

a. blue crystal necklace
b. honeycomb
c. bike w hearts
d. mini honeycomb
c. pack drusy ring (wait to hear size???)
e. camera

And after those are done, work on DC tie bars for Ginger Root, send a honeycomb ring to that store, finish those white drusy heart rings and email people, oooh that black pink heart ring (don't mess up the hearts!!!), finish that mini camera....ok!

I also started some darling little drusy pendants yesterday with pearls on top that I cannot wait to finish, so hopefully those will be up later! I finished photos for my Fab.com sale coming up, too- Julia was kind enough to sit on a porch and let me take pics! Here's a sneak peak:

soooooo i hope this was interesting. if not, tough cookies! bye!

good mornin'!

Oh hellooooooo! First and foremost, I wanted to thank everyone who entered my contest and did such a great job spreading the word- I really really appreciate it! And will definitely be having a new one soon!

In other news, I haven't blogged in forever. And I'm terribly sorry. I'm sure everyone is devastated. Allow me to fill you in on recent events:

I just got back from a trip home to mass. with the hubby, which was great, except for a little stomach bug/food poisoning incident that sort of ruined one night and half a day. But still great!

I've been having a few little wholesale orders here and there which is a real thrill, and I love doing. And have  a bunch of orders to catch up on now. AND am going to be doing Fab again shortly with some new items, so I need to finish all of those pieces to photograph.

OH and my wallet was stolen last week, but I finally have all of my new cards back and such. So I have to do a bunch of stuff to make sure my info everywhere is correct.

This is more of a to-do list than an interesting update on my life. Sorry!

What else??

I don't know! It's basically summer in DC now- winter and spring sort of skipped us. Which is great! More skirts and dresses to wear! Though I did just buy a heavy pair of BLACK madewell jeans, which I love. They are high waisted and sort of tight on my stomach so I always feel like I'm full, which means I don't eat so much. So that's sort of like a little diet secret. Anyway, they are WARM and aren't the best for hot summer days I don't think. But I do love them. and now it makes me only want to buy expensive fancy clothing. But all I really want still are Target dresses.

Ok. So now that everyone knows how crazy I really am, I'm going to get my ess ache (H?) eye tee together  and get the day started! Who's with me?!!!?!!!?

Since you need SOME pictures in a blog post. here is one of Ben holding a weird aligator mask that was in his house-

Contest!

OK gang, it's happening. I'm having a contest. And honestly, I don't really know how to do it. So we'll learn together!

First off, here is what's up for grabs: a brand new Rachel Pfeffer Design, Artemis' Arrow! (Or Katniss, whatever you prefer).

That's right! This necklace is so new it hasn't even been released yet!! It's not even ONLINE yet! WOWOWOWOWOWOW.

Basically, the more "tasks" you complete, the more times your name will be entered into the proverbial hat. But I might end up writing down names on actually slips of papers and actually putting them in a hat. Because I don't really know how else to do it.

You get one point for visiting my website, www.rachelpfeffer.com, and telling me your favorite item!
(Comment on this page with your email address and a note telling me)

You get one point for tweeting this contest, linking to this blog page!
(Again, comment on this page with your email and and twitter handle saying you entered!)

You get one point for joining my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/rachelpfefferdesigns
and writing on the wall saying hi to me! (and then comment on this page with your email and a note saying you did so!)

And lastly, if you have a blog, you get two points for blogging about the contest! Just leave a comment on this page with your name and email and blog address!

AND if you don't have a blog, don't be sad! You can get your extra two points by posting it on your facebook page. Again, let me know in the comment section what you did!

This will go on until next Wednesday, the 14th! After that I will tally up everyone's points, and the more points you have, the more often your name will be put into the pool! Right? Does that sound logical? I think so.

LET THE FIRST ANNUAL RACHEL PFEFFER GAMES BEGIN.

And may the odds be forever in your favor.

New pics for website?

Soooo gang, I'm trying to make my product photos look more profesh. So I am putting, or attempting to put, all of the items on a solid white background (slash photoshop my way there). Do they look good? OR weird and sterile?
