Crafty Endeavors

Let me tell you something.

I used to be crafty.

Like, crafty crafty. I'd make pouches to hang from my bed to put socks in, I'd screen print shirts with freezer paper, and I'd sew purses from scraps of purses. Hell, I had Craft Corner (much to my suite mates' chagrin) in my suite in college.

And now? 

No sewing machine, no glitter, no nothin'.

So, I'm bringing crafty back, babies!

Tomorrow I'm heading to the Paper Source. Not sure what I'll get, but hopefully they will be pretty, crafty things! 

 I also want to make something to hang all of our beer openers on (we have a nice little collection growing).

Anyway, that's my story.

I don't really post links to things, but seeing as I'm a BLOG, I guess I should be doing that!!

Two things worth looking at:

When I explained this story to Ben I actually started to cry a little. There's this whale
who has absolutely no friends or family or lovers (i feel weird saying that word), and apparently it's because her songs are too high pitched for any other whales to hear. How sad is that??

This is a great video a guy made of his beard for a year. Very cool- not your average picture-a-day beard video!

Tiny Bikey

So lots of folks have been asking for an even SMALLER biker.

And here's the rough draft, so to speak.

Target=my one and only

source for clothes, that is. I feel like challenging myself to only buy clothes from Target (or target brands from second hand stores).

They have such pretty things mixed in with all those jeggings and tie dyed tank tops!

Like.......THIS DRESS. It's so soft and came in a few different colors and I can't wait for it to be warm enough to waltz around around in it. But until then, I'll just have to wear it over skinny jeans.

Also, I got the yellow trench-ish coat from my favorite used clothing store called Frugalistas, that's Liberty of London from Target (I assume it's from target?) and whenever I wear it in DC I get compliments from strangers and accoldares for dressing so colorfully! So I have decided from now on to dress as crazy colorful as I can whenever I go outside to brighten up the black and gray suits of DC. (No offense to all you colorful dressers in DC, I know you are out there!).

Anyhoo, here are some handsome staircase shots....I need a tripod.

 

now I must make a mini camera necklace and have it the post office before noon! Yeeps!

The Outfit.

After much deliberation, this is what I'm going with tonight:

I'm going to a "DC Fashion Industry" mixer happy hour hosted by Worn Magazine at the Gibson, which is a super cool sounding speakeasy-like bar on U Street, that I've always wanted to go to.

BUT I'M NERVOUS.

I need to make a good impression, but what do I wear? What jewelry??? HELP.

I'm thinking Swinging Earrings...maybe long drusy necklace with little bow necklace, and some rings? shooting star? big purple geode? 

When it gets closer to GO time I'll be posting some samples of what I might wear...I might need advice...

QUESTION

So I made a few rain drop shapes today, and then decided to make earrings. And then realized I could do two different hings with them. And then I panicked.

So, what do you think? Make them into double-sided drop earrings? Or long swinging two-part studs? HELP.

 

The bigger drop hangs from a little ring so that they swing!

 

The bigger drop on the back slides onto the post of the smaller one and stays put with a stopper, for a neat shadow effect.

Please, do tell which you like better!

I've been fooling around with this ring for a while now, and now I'm pretty pleased with the results! Just need to take some better pictures...

Hair Dare

Back in the day (aka freshman year of college) i would have my dad dyed my hair a lot, usually some kind of punk-ish bright red. And lately I've had the hankering for some red again! So, today I went to Target, got some dye, and am gonna do the deed shortly.

I'll keep you posted!

In addition to a pretty wacky shooting star drusy ring with gold leather....which i'll share later.

Now, it's off to the hair dye! Wish me luck!

Wedding Things

Guess what? Weddings are stressful!

But of the following, I am sure:

-flower centerpieces will be in tea cups (like this)

-  locally made wedding pies instead of cake

Rings rings and more rings

Today I destroyed my finger polishing a ring. The polishing wheel got caught in a ring and the ring started spinging around and around and kept hitting my finger. Now it's fine. And here are the resulting rings!
