Rooftop Pool

Scenes from the roof top pool at The Colonnade Hotel in Boston.

This Monday, Daniela and I had work off, and instead of going to the beach, (sand+sun block=unhappy rachel.) I had read about the RTP (roof top pool!) ontop of the Colonade Hotel, and it said that for $30, non-hotel guests could use the pool for a day. So up we went to the roof, bags packed with chips, sandwiches, trashy magazines, and towels. The youngster at the desk said they were full, and that we wouldn't be able to get in. He must have felt awful for us, because we just sort of stood there. I think I might have teared up a little. Finally he said, just go in.

Huzzah!

So we didn't have to pay. And we spent the whole day there, sipping Mojitos. It was marvelous. We even made friends with a pretty lady from Venezuela!

PS- check out the dude's mullet.
You may have to click to enlarge, but it's worth it.

Secret earrings!

Check it out: the chains on the earrings I'm wearing in this picture are coming from BEHIND MY EAR LOBE. I'm sure these earrings exist, but I'm totally into the idea of earrings with pieces that hang from the post behind your ear lobe, before the little stopper. So I made these hammered hoops that float on the lobe, with the gold chain and turquoise bead hanging from behind! Trippppy.

Do we feel good about these?

Folding Chair

I've always liked Regina Spektor. Great walking-around-the-city in the sun music  to be-bop around to. Except for her slow songs. Those are kind of downers.

Her newest album, however, has one song called Folding Chair that I could seriously listen to on repeat for the rest of my life. It is so up beat and fun and makes me sing out loud even though I'm wearing my head phones.

If you've never heard it, here's a video.

She played one year at Brandeis for the big concert, but I fell asleep on the floor in the back of the gym...she wasn't too riveting live. And then she yelled at everyone because people were talking.

In any event! Listen to Folding Chairs. Love it.

Pedal into my heart

I like bikes. I know, everyone does. Who doesn't like a bike? I'm different, because I don't like riding bikes. Actually, I'm sure there are lots of people who are like that too. I bought an adorable yellow old 60's one speed bike from a flea market once. I tried to ride it down my driveway and got too tired to ride back up. Needless to say, it hasn't made it to Boston yet. Sometimes I fantasize about riding it to a bakery in a red and white polka dot dress, a big straw hat on, and coming home with a baguette and some muffins in an equally adorable basket.

Obviously hasn't/will never happen.

so, instead I made the necklace pictured above. It is the sister necklace to this:

Which followed the original:

And that's the evolution of the bike.

Amy!

I just discovered my friend Amy's blog. I like it like it. so should you.

And she was in the Metro! So she is famous, too.

BTW, AMY, i opened an ice cream store one summer after freshman year of B-Deis, so if you need a giant pink and green Hood Ice Cream flag to hang from a window, or a big ice cream cone cut-out, I've got you covered!

New Ring

Perhaps one of the largest rings I've ever made, this bold and daring piece is made from a triangular piece of amethyst agate.

And this is the newest addition to Bee Season! I decided to name this evolving honey related collection to one of my old favorite books by Myla Goldberg.

Love it a lot!

I just found a delightful shopping blog with an equally delightful banner, called Love It A Lot.  Here are a few things that especially caught my fancy:

Mmm Anthropologie shoes.

Wooden link necklace from Erica Weiner. I keep coming across her on the interwebs. Lovely things.

Anniversay Surprise

One of my best friends, Rachel (I lived with two other Rachels in college!) just had her 1 year anniversary with her luvah. This gentleman had emailed me a couple of weeks ago asking if I could make something special for him to give to her as a gift. After lots of back and forth brainstorming, we decided on a train with Jackson on the front. This is because a) she loves public transportation and b) after college, moved to Jackson MI where she met the love of her life. They recently moved to Dallas, TX. So, now that you have a brief biography of Rachel, I can continue.

Since Chris was always with Rachel, he had to be stealth in communicating with me. And so, he sent me a rapid doodle of a train on his iPhone.

And then, I made this!

And, thank god, she loved it.

Sleepy?

I'm back from a few days of Maine with my entire extended family. I took way too many pictures of my cutie little baby cousin, but that one up there is my favorite. It makes me feel so sleepy and happy.

Off to Vacationland

Ii'm going to Maine today after work! This time last year my whole extended family crammed into a giant house on Lake Champlaigne and  played Boggle and Perfection all night every night.

I'll take lots of lovely pictures and post them when I'm back. The picture above is of my pops fishing on the doc.

And here is my bro clinging onto the side of a boat.

enjoy the weekend!

Look at this calendar!

This ink calendar blows my noggin a bit. It is made by Oscar Diaz.

Ink Calendar make use of the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time. The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are ‘printed ‘ daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. The calendar enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.  The aim of the project is to address our senses, rather than the logical and conscious brain.

EmbroiderBling

For a while now I've been fantasizing about a series of things called EmbroiderBling. Finally, I finished one! I can't tell if it looks good or like a 4 year decided to do her own thing in art class. Thoughts?

Seriously.

I'm seriously going to start blogging regularly. It may not be funny, it may not be design-y, but it will be bloggy. We will begin at the beginning. Of this evening.

I went to the gym around 4:15. (I haven't gone in about two months, other than yesterday). After casting a quick glance at the schedule for classes, I saw a class called Yoga Sculpt that started in 15 minutes. What a great word to describe a class, I thought. All I want to be is sculpted. If I had compare myself to either marble, play-do, Sculpy, Fimo, or paper mache, I would say my body type is that of sculpy. I'm not quite as doughy as play-do, but I'm certainly no marble. So anyway, I ended up watching King of Queens on an eliptical for 15 minutes and then headed to the classroom.

5 other girls were there, all very skinny, fit, and incredibly tan. Who is tan? It's like winter here in Boston. Anyway, after an hour of trembling in the plank position (I had to cheat and put my knee down) to nearly dislocating my shoulder in a downward dog horror, I walked out alive, feeling fantastic. I have yet to be sculpted though.

Maybe if I get into Yoga it will give me a good excuse to go to LuLu Lemon to buy snazzy clothes. I could be a person who wears that!

Foxes

I've really been digging foxes lately, and I feel they may just be the next owl. Here are a few of my favorite foxy things from Etsy. Know of any others? Leave a comment!

Edit: After perusing Etsy, I now realize that foxes are perhaps the hardest animal to depict in something like jewelry. How do you distinguish it from a cat, or a dog? Bravo to those who can make an obvious fox, in any medium!
