Necklace and Rain

The wind's a howlin', I tells ya.

I made this necklace today, promptly ran out of oxygen for my torch, walked to the post office, contemplated getting a new tank of oxygen, put it off until tomorrow.

Here's the necklace:

The stone is this really pretty agate bead I found a little while ago. The bezel just goes around the edge and folds over like that on the back too, so you can wear it either way. I also oxidized it for a more antique look. I've never made a bezel like that before, but I think I dig it.

Rain rain rain rain rain rainrianrianrainrain

Today was going to be my "explore DC and take pretty pictures and eat cupcakes and get inspired."

Instead, there are flash flood warnings and I'm never setting foot outside. Good thing there is a mini mart in the basement, should I need an emergency iced tea.

This SECOND an emergency weather alert came on the tv! look look!

I never saw a real one before that wasn't a test.

Anyhoo, I have some plans to make some new things today, so I will be sure to keep you posted. I have a feeling that today will be a heavy blogging day.

Retro Sign Pop Up Store

Is there such thing as a Pop Up Etsy store? I hope so, because that's what I'm calling my new temporary shop. I'll be selling a batch of really awesome posters from decades ago that were used in an old clothing store called Anne August. Here's a taste of what's the come..

Aren't they fun? If I had a vintage store I would frame these bad boys and put them on the walls!

MAGAZINESSSS

I just picked up a copy of the Bust Magazine that my bike ring is in! It has Helen Mirren on the cover. I'm so excited I could do a cartwheel. If I could. If I could do a cartwheel, believe me, I'd be cartwheelin' all over the place!

Turquoise Punch

Ok ok, this ring isn't actually turquoise - it's dyed magnesite! but I love how it looks. So i made a big ol' ring with it.

If only my middle finger wasn't quite so crooked...

Shadow Hearts

I finally listed the little heart shadow ring! I oxidized the inside so it's dark, and just polished one side of the heart. The other side is darkened. I want to make a traffic jam one next...challenge accepted!

Stay tuned for more new additions!

Once upon A Time Ring...

Once upon there was a necklace. One day I decided it would rather be a ring. The end.

So yeah. remember when this was a necklace? I decided it would make a way better ring. I think I was right. It says "once upon a time there was a pretty girl" stamped around the bezel. Adorbs.

Heart Shadows

I made a ring this weekend and am so excited about making more in the series! It's not completely finished, but it's sort of like a shadow box effect, with secret scenes on the inside.

ARE YOU AS EXCITED AS I AM?!

Sol Lewitt Ceremony?

While I was home, I went to Mass Moca with the mum to scope out the scene. (Fact: As I write this, I'm biting string cheese. It seems wrong, but I'm feeling lazy). Anyway, everything was amazing and I got so excited about planning the wedding. Lots of locations depend on what artists will be in what galleries, but I'm tempted to have the ceremony in this Sol Lewitt installation that will be up for the next 25 years!

Dusty Art.

I've been quietly hiding every single drawing/print/painting I made during college in a dark and dusty grave beneath my bed in my parent's house. While I was home for the week, the mama made me go through it and throw out what I didn't want.

I felt like I was reading my diary from 9th grade, only these were from 13-16th grade, which made it that much more embarrassing. A self-portrait with a giant umbrella you get in fancy drinks covering my head? A scary drawing collage of images of Mickey Mouse and Basquiat? What's up with that?

Some were okay. Most I threw away. Everything was dusty. Did I say that already?

I like this cobwebby lamp. If I had this under my bed, I wouldn't throw it away.

Dirty Fingers

This is my hand, and I'm proud of it! As some of you know, I've gotten lots of guff in the past about modeling rings with gross finger nails. I've learned my lesson, yes. But today as I was walking around outside, I looked down at my hand and new ring that I made, and loved my chipped nails, dirty cuticles, and crooked middle finger.

I am dirty-handed, hear me roar!

Also, this is the cat that is always hanging around our hallway. He was cuddled up to the elevator door, which made me a little nervous.

Sunny Sunday

I love how these cloud earrings look floating above a unicorn!

What a lovely day it is in DC today. I caught up on some orders, bought some house things with Ben, and I might even paint my nails! Wowza.

I also saw this apartment building. How CRAZY is that flower balcony??

And last but not least, it took every fiber of my being to hold back form buying this totally unnecessary glittery skeletons at Target. and I don't even LIKE skeletons!

The Tom's of Glasses

I love Tom's Shoes. I have two pairs, both glitter. I also love that they give a pair of shoes to someone in need. I also wear glasses. I don't totally love glasses, but I wear glasses. I now love Warby Parker, a glasses website. I love how cheap the frames are, and I love how cool the frames are, and now I think I love glasses. I also love how every time you buy a pair, they donate a pair of glasses to someone in need.

Are we clear?

(Also, I love how they will send you up to five frames to try on- for free! And then you just choose one, send them back, and order the one you like!)

scream not dream

This is the finished product. It says Love Scream Dance Eat Be.

I hope people dont think it says Dream. It probably should say that. but i was in a scream mood!

Let the wedding blog begin!

Okay gang. Do we love this dress or do we love it? It's by Watters, but is their Wtoo line, which apparently is way cheaper!

Don't be hatin'

I tried so very hard NOT to to Starbucks today.

And yet here I am, sipping my insanely expensive pumpkin latte that is too hot for the day, listening to hip music.

I'M SORRY.

Here's what happened: I had all of these excited independent coffee shops mapped out to try today in Columbia Heights, but I had to go to the post office in the opposite direction. By the time I got there, I felt sick (worst cold ever), hot, tired, and starbucks was right there. Like a glowing haven of air conditioning and free wifi. What's a girl to do?

I ask for your forgiveness. Nay, I beg.

Anyhoos. I made this little delight of a carnelian ring today which I'm quite smitten with. I love a good oxidized look, and can't seem to stop doing it to anything I make! I also half-made a hilarious ring out of a big amethyst geode chunk, and in a cold-medicine induced haze, stamped the words "Love-Scream-Dance-Eat-Be" all separated with hearts. I guess I was on a verb rampage. We'll see how that turns out!

I also just finished this ring which I am in love with!

It is oxidized and has a couple 14k gold yellow beads for some added fun!

Bike Ring and Save the Dates

In other news......I am liking this Save The Date idea!

New Bike Things!

My friend Sadie was nice enough to model my new small bike necklace! I should start using models more (instead of awkwardly photographing myself ((see earrings below)).

In other news, we are basically moved into our new DC digs. Things are looking good, but I'm in the market for some design-y cool string of lights to hang across a beam..suggestions?

Bikeearrings!

I haven't taken actual photos of these new bikes yet, but how great are the earrings?? I can't wait to take good pictures and list them! And necklaces, and rings, oh my.

Also, tomorrow I take the train to DC, and friday we move into the new apartment! Scary!!!

Words of Wisdom

Whenever I wake up the day of a hair appointment, my hair always looks amazing.

So I'm pretty sure on a day when you need to have really great looking hair, fool your body into thinking that you are going in for a haircut. And then you will have fabulous hair.

Also, I'm pretty sure this toy would have been super fun to have. For like, a day. Maybe an hour.

gah

Imagine having Joan from Madmen as your friend? And then imagine that she models your scarves on Etsy?
