Myla Goldberg

Random flashback time:

a few years ago someone ordered a big glass eye ring from me (i used to make them more often).

she then explained that she was buying it for her friend myla goldberg, the author and musician. They were in a band together and for some reason it said in her wikipedia entry that she had a glass eye, as a joke. (which seems to no longer be in the wikipedia entry).

Coincidentally, Bee Season was and still is my favorite book of all time (the movie adaptation is playing on HBO right now, which reminded me of this whole thing). So I freaked when I heard it was for her.

And then I was told that it was used on her webpage! which is still there.

This is a screen shot of mylagoldberg.com. See the ring? In the area next to the monkey?

Anyway. That's that. Back to making last minute christmas orders!

a glimpse of life through instagram

Rings out for christmas

I sold at All Crafts Considered, a little gift show at NPR.

This is what the day looked like when everyone had school and work canceled for snow.

We basically live in a storage unit until the holidays are over.

These deer I bough from Target were the best things I ever purchased.

Oh and I went to Paris! Did I forget to tell you that?

the BEST little gift you could ever get!

My dear friend Emily needed a white elephant gift for under $10, and we managed to get the most delightful assortment of goodies at Target. I suggest you go get this bundle today to give at parties this weekend.

1) A glass Cheers tumbler! On sale for $5!!

2) A pack of black and white polka dot paper straw. Together with the glass, it's quite kate spade-y.
(I can't find the right colors online, but you get the idea)

3) And lastly, buy a 4 pack of mini cheap champagne, keep three bottles for yourself, and put the fourth with the gift!

TA-DAH. i want to go buy it to give to myself.

Now, I need to finish LA Complex, a most amazing Canadian-set-in-LA drama. Netflix. Go watch.

Hello!!

What's cookin? We've been eating lots of squash lately, because we get a box of veggies delivered (because i'm lazy and its the only way i will ever cook). And there have been lots of squashes.

Yesterday we had acorn squash.

Today, I will attempt a spaghetti squash. Which I sort of thought was a myth! I think I'll give this recipe a go.

Last night our friends' house held a "We Love Fall" party! Everyone dressed up in the autumnal best.

I wore a new cord mini skirt from gap outlet, and a sweater i got on sale at anthro.

Emily won Dutchess of Fall, along with her brother who won Duke.

I also made an Eye Necklae! And will be doing more with different color stones, and also bracelets!!

And now we are finishing off our weekend with a Scandal on Netflix marathon. The end.

LOOK ITS A LOOK BOOK

yes its true. we shot a look book monday, and i think i'm all done editing! I put it on the website here. let me know what you think!

Emily took some great behind the scenes pics. Here are a few of my favs:

Caroline putting on Julia's makeup, in front of my messy workbench.

Caroline did some amazing gold and black cat eye make up!

A look at the banner in a mirror

A wonderful stylist, Kaarin of the Closet Caucus, dolling up Julia.

For the chunky lip look we used hot pink sugar crystals from the cake decorating isle1

I made this banner just using paper sheets from Michaels, a hole punch, and twine!

Tasting some sugar

Maybe my favorite shot.

And photographer Emily with a million eyes.

Lets talk about baseball

just kidding. but it is exciting.

i really want to talk about this new necklace:

I use the word famous very loosely, and very frequently. My friend (another Rachel) reminded me the other day about the time we were in an ATM and I noticed the man in front of us deposited a check for like, $800, which then (and still now) seemed like a trillion dollars. I whispered to Rachel (and our OTHER friend Rachel) "so famous!"

That's a pretty good example of my relationship with the word. Anything really cool, I call famous. Whenever I'm mentioned or posted about in the tiniest capacity, I write to my friends, or they write to me, saying "famous!" You get the idea.

Also, I sort of want to be famous. Like, the good kind of famous. Where famous people where my jewelry.

SO thats about it! I created it in wax, and had it cast in recycled brass. It's heavy, but in an awesome way. Very comfortable to wear. And hopefully it will make you famous! Or not, if that's not your thing.

ALSO. I'm shooting a look book on monday! can't wait. also have NO CLUE what i'm doing. I have a lovely stylist lending me clothes from a great boutique in town, and a couple of friends modeling.

so get excited about that.

famous.

My 2 minute convo with Leandra, AKA Man Repeller

Last night The Man Repeller herself was having a book signing at the W in DC. Clearly I had to go. Many moons ago we sent her a Stitchtagram pillow which she so kindly instagrammed and made us happy. And last night I bought her book, and was able to say hello during the signing! She liked me star necklace. Swoon. And almost touched it.

And then Julia, Emily and I went to the photobooth, because they are always the most fun things in the world to do. The gals were kind enough to drape themselves in my jewels.

So that was that!
