Greetings from Samos!

Hello long lost friends! Emily, did you get your haircut yet? i say you post pictures of way before (dreads), after (first cut) and now! yah yeah yaeh. I'm on a computer in the lobby of a hotel in a hotel on Gagou beach on the island of Samos, and boy is it hot. Also beautiful. I can't wait to post all of my pictures when I get home! Hopefully I'm getting somewhat of a tan. At least I'm not burnt yet. I tried to post a picture fom the internet but everything is in Greek and I don't know how :(. I won't even say it's all greek to me, so don't worry. oops.

anyway, emily, it's back to you! i hope everyone is having a good beginning to summer! Anyone else on adventures?

Hair today, gone tomorrow!

Thank goodness my roomie put her foot down and booked us both haircuts for tomorrow. It's been about 7 months since my last one (which really isn't that long compared to the 6 years I went without one previous to December). See, I had dreads for about 6 years; well, I had them first for about 2 year, took a year, or so, off, then did them again. I'd been craving a change, and so in December went from zero to hero and cut 'em all off.
I've been sporting a short, feminine do since then, and have really liked it. Man oh man is it nice to have that hair off my back all the time. It's so quick to wash (though I still wash it only 2 or 3 times a month), and looks good with clips, hairbands, or even nothing at all. But my hair grows fast, and it grows THICK! For being so short, it's getting pretty heavy, and with June already in it's second half, the time has come to shorten (again), thin out (again), and drink some more free Momosas (again).
We'll be going to Shag (www.shagboston.com). Check out some of Rachel's earlier posts about her adventures there with our other BFF Daniela.
For now, check out the 3 styles I'm gonna bring in. The first one is what my original cut was modeled after. I like the femininity of it, but am nervous about keeping it that long on top again.

These 2 are new pics. The short, short one is what I want, in all honesty. But I'm nervous it won't work for me, and will make me look like a boy.

The second one seems to be a compromise between the 2; shorter, but not boy short:

Keep in mind I don't put ANY product in my hair EVER.

Now, PLEASE share your thoughts...

hellos!

hello world of the web!!

thanks, rachel, for the introduction. like she wrote, we have been, and continue to be besties, since we were wee-ones, so it's my ultimate pleasure to fill in for her while she's off gallivanting around the world. im excited to see pictures of the trip, especially any that feature her cute new bathing suit or awesome 'greek' dress.
i realize there's probably a shmancy fancy way to link her earlier posts about these 2 things here, but im brand new to the world of blogging, so bare with me. and for your sake, scroll down a bit and see what im talking about. what lovelies!

for now, check out this new crib mattress by Nook Sleep Systems:
It's called the Pebble Mattress and it looks so comfy cozy! The mattress itself is completely textured, with those pebble-like bumps spread randomly throughout. It also comes in lots of bright colors! Check 'em out: http://nooksleep.com/shop

Now, i should warn you. I do not have babies, i don't have nieces or nephews, i don't have friends with kids (close friends, that is). but what i do have is a job at a baby store. so though crib mattresses may not be at the top of your list of cool, hip items, they certainly are for me.

more interesting things to come (hopefully).

Bon Voyage Rach! Bring me back something bright and colorful and Turkish!

I just watched this Iceland video over at Cup of Joe and am in LOVE with it. Next time, Iceland!

Meet Emily!

Tomorrow, I'll be embarking on my voyage to Greece and Turkey, and to keep ya'll entertained, I've asked my dear friend Emily (who has been one of my bff's since first grade!) to pop by every now and then and spill her guts.

See? That's Emily. She has a new sassy short haircut and cool glasses. I hope you become best friends!

good plane reads?

We embark for Athens this Saturday, and I know I will be bored silly on the plane. Any suggestions for really easy, guilty-pleasure reads that will keep me occupied for 9 hours (plus an 8 hour Montreal lay over?). I'm not talking enriching books. I'm talking a good, scandalous plot. Suggestions?

Love,

RAchel

AAAAAAAH CLAM BED

Ok. Here's the deal:

There's a hotel in North Conway, New Hampshire called the Adventure Suites. Get a load of THIS:

If you buy one of these hanging beds, you can stay in the suite for free!!!

My friends stayed in this room, and the clam shell opens and closes!

Every room has a heart shaped jacuzzi!!

I've never wanted to go anymore more in my life. I think I want my wedding to be there when the time comes.

Stunning Window

I was in Boston about a week ago, strolling down Newbury St. with my bud Emily en route to a roof top bar called Rattlesnake. Past all of the glamorous outdoor seating restaurants with fancy looking europeans eating fancy looking foods, the fashionable street becomes a little deserted at nighttime. That's why it was so shocking to see this huge, glowing window from the distance. I thought it was filled with glass globes, Emily thought some kind of magnifying glass. But no, it was filled with all different kinds of vintage sewing machines! On clear plastic shelves, stacked on top of each other. It was a sight to behold.

The store is called Allsaints Spitafields, a store from the UK with crazy/beautiful expensive clothes. (Fun fact- the director of Crazy/Beautiful is also named Rachel Pfeffer!)

PS- I want this tee!

Hairagami!

One of my best gal pals recently bought a Hairagami. I had the pleasure of trying to figure out how to use it on her. The results:

I couldn't get it to make a regular bun! It's like a slap bracelet---only two, connected, with a floppy gap between them. Confusing, I know. In any event, I kind of like that wacky flat non-bun bun.

Greek Dress

Also, I bought this dress to take on my trip from Marshals. I never want to take it off! Only 20 buckaroonis, and it's so comfy and flattering. Get thee to the Marshals!

Speaking of Get Thee To The's, we saw Get Him to the Greek, and I laughed so hard at one scene (Vegas hotel) that I hurt my shoulder (still hurts) and then started to cry. Really. A great silly summer movie .

svu marathons and breakfast burritos

The post title sums up my Sunday so far. It started off with an intense house cleaning which I stopped mid way through, and now its messier than it was when I began. Don't you hate that?

and now Law and Order SVU is on until...4:30 am. So I'll never stop watching.

Ben was eating M&M's and found this little runt. Isn't he cute?

A Rose is a Rose is a Rose

How grand is this monster of a ring?

Stamped with Gertrude Stein's A Rose is a Rose is a Rose all the way around the bezel over and over again.

Sparkle sparkle!

I can't get over how shiny and sparkly this new drusy ring is!

I think I'll have another bezel-with-text ring ready later today...it's pretty massive and crazy, but i hope it works!

in other news....still frantically trying to get things together for the trip! a little nervous about putting the shop on vacation mode for 2.5 weeks or so. i might just leave it open and say if you order something it won't be shipped until July 5th. What do you guys think?

Blu Moon

I am so excited about my newest engagement ring! I feel funny calling it an engagement ring, though, because it is also just a wonderfully fabulous regular ring.

It's especially great because the band is sterling silver, which makes it way more affordable than if it were white gold!

In other news, I'm too full from eating wings in this great place near UMass. Now we're watching the basketball game (go celtics?). By we I mean Ben. By watching I mean I'm sitting in the same room as the tv.

Newest Treasury!

Not to toot my own horn, but how pretty is this new treasury? Please go and click on everything so that perhaps it will make it to the front page!

A dash of mysterious, with a pinch of romance.

Good News

The keys have been located! They were hiding in the Foosball table. So everyone who was following this saga with bated breath, rest assured!

That is all.

Whine time.

Nothing's worse than a sales slump! What gives? How to perk myself up? AND Ben's keys are currently MIA. And 1% of me is terrified that it somehow ended up in the big gross bag of garbage waiting to be picked up on the curb. What do I do?? Can we all agree it's not in there??

Cascading Hoops!

I think I need to make a pair of these for myself!

In other news, keep an eye out for a new BLUE diamond engagement ring tomorrow! ooooooooh.

In more other news, it is unbearably humid here. Bleh.
