New Ring

Perhaps one of the largest rings I've ever made, this bold and daring piece is made from a triangular piece of amethyst agate.

And this is the newest addition to Bee Season! I decided to name this evolving honey related collection to one of my old favorite books by Myla Goldberg.

Answers, I need answers! (and giveaway??)

 Welcome summer!

1) I counted 5 of those gym-bag-esque Longchamp nylon totes with leather straps going to work today. I must be missing something about them. Why are they so popular??

2) I think I love sitting in the train station watching ladies go by, admiring their work clothes. Weird? (Today I wore a knee length dark denim skirt with a loosey goosey yellow tee shirt tucked in, and thought I was being so fashion forward. False! Everyone was wearing skirts with shirts tucked in. A strappy strappy flat sandals.)

3)I made a new homepage for my website. Do we like it? Too weird? Also, I'm thinking about changing my "line" from Rachel Ann Designs (I'm pretty sure there are 5,000 of those) to Rachel Says Hi. How do we feel about that?

So, you, dear reader, have some homework. Answer those three questions above in comment form! I will pick one lucky winner, who will be rewarded with something most delightful. Maybe a Bullet Buddy?? This will end Sunday night! If I remember.

Look at this bottle!

I was lucky enough to go to a charity dinner a few days ago, and the wine they were so generously supplying for free was from Francis Ford Coppola's company. The "series" was called Encyclopedia, and the bottles were such fun! After a few glasses I finally asked the kindly bartender what he was going to do with the empty bottles, and after some conspiring and hidden purse opening and zipping, I left with one of the lovely beaker shaped containers. Not sure yet what I'll do with it, but I'll post some after pictures when I know! Any suggestions? All I can think of right now is vase. or decanter.

Free time?

My brother sent me this link the other day. We are both big Royal Tenenbaum fans, and these captioned video clips explain the design influences and decisions in the movie, made by Matt Zoller Setiz. There are 5 "video essays", and each one covers a different topic! My attempt to upload the video directly to my blog was thwarted, so you'll just have to go all the way over to the website to watch it. But it's worth it!

Record Lamp

My mom just gave me a stack of 45's, and I knew right then and there I had to make a lamp. My initial vision was making something more like a globe, with the light bulb in the middle. But after laboriously boiling portions of the records and getting unhealthily covered in epoxy glue, I decided to call it quits and have a half globe kind of hanging lamp shade. It looks pretty great, but I have yet to get a good picture of it! What do you think? Etsy worthy?

Amazing table

I saw this table on NotCot and just nearly died. It is cool I don't even know what to do with myself.

It is made out of acrylic and wood by an Israeli designer by the name of Itay Ohaly. So simply yet intricate.

Pretty Vases

I was in Crate and Barrel yesterday, wishing I had an extra $800 lying around to buy this chair, when I saw these vases, which were way more in my price range. Obviously I didn't get any, since I already have a few vases and rarely have flowers in them as it is. But I imagined all four of the colors lined up on a window sill, each with a different colored, single long stemmed flower basking in the sun.

Sigh. I think I have to go back and get at least one. But then the question is, which color?

Ta-Da!

After dreaming for days and nights of this mythical pendant, it finally exists!

Hot off the presses. Or torches, I suppose. It's a mini chalk board pendant, complete with mini chalk holster! Write messages! Draw doodles! The first of hopefully a series of limited edition chalk board pendants. See more pics here.

Clever

What a hilariously clever card. So simple and cute! By Lucas and Hayley, available at Keep Calm Gallery

Holy quilts!

Whilst doing my daily perusal of Notcot.org, I found this website. A fellow by the name of Luke Haynes makes artist quilts, often featuring abstract and realistic images of people and objects. I really want this hammer one:

Can you even believe it's  a quilt? I'm blown away by it.

Mesmerizing

While perusing the latest posts on Design Talk over at 2 Modern (I post every monday!), I became amazed by this image from a pavement painting featured in the Festival of World Cultures last year in Ireland.

It was painted by Edgar Muller, along with assistants, and was so real looking that many people actually bent down to make sure the ground was there. There's a really neat video with epic music in the background here . Fantastic.
